Abia NMA issues 21-day ultimatum to Ikpeazu to pay unpaid salary arrears

Following the directive of the National Executive of the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, the Abia State branch of the NMA has issued the Abia State Government a 21-day ultimatum regarding salaries due to state doctors or a total and indefinite strike.

In a letter to State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, signed by Dr. Isaiah Abali, State President, and Dr. Daniel Ekeleme, Secretary, the doctors regretted "that doctors working at HMB are indebted 12 months salary arrears, Resident Doctors at ABSUTH 20 months and other executive doctors at ABSUTH 24 months.”

According to them, "the cries of doctors in Abia due to crippling salary arrears have become so deafening that so many of these doctors live with heavy debts, unable to meet the needs of their various families.< / p>

"That following the NMA Abia State Ordinary General Meeting held on October 16, 2022, the State Congress mandated the SOC to issue this ultimatum being the final measure to obtain a financial reprieve for our dying members."< /p>

The Association has therefore given the Abia State Government a 21-day ultimatum to settle all salary arrears owed to doctors working at Abia Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) Aba and the Council of hospital management (HMB).

They warned, "If ABSG fails to clear said arrears at the expiration of 21 days, all physicians at federal, state, and private employers in the state will go on an all-out, indefinite strike. "
