Ablaze FA wins the first Lekki Sports Consulting Cup

Ikorodu's Ablaze FA became the champion of the first invitational tournament of the Lekki Sports Consulting Cup.

They beat Kiddos RA by a single goal to win the new grassroots tournament hosted by Okaka Football Club owner Arinze Madueke.

The tournament, according to its organizers, aims to discover new talent, encourage the spirit of fair play, then send undiscovered talent overseas for further training and development, as well as to get them into professional football.

The Legacy Pitch at National Stadium, Surulere was where 12 guest teams from across the state battled for honors in the week-long tournament.

Legends FC beat KidSport 7-6 on penalties after going 1-1 at full time to become the third team.

Individual awards were also given to deserving talents. Ablaze FA's Lawal Warris was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP); Benson Victor of Kidsport U15s was voted best young player while Olumide Solanke won the best goalkeeper award.

Abdul Qudus Saka of Kiddos RA and Tomola Megba of Legend FC both shared top scorer honors with three goals and one assist each.

Speaking to reporters after what was widely considered a successful tournament, the Okaka FC boss said he was impressed with the quality of talent on display in the inaugural edition and promised to enlarge the following editions.

He said: "At the end of the day, the idea is knowing that we have been able to identify the talent and that we will be able to provide them with the support they need to excel and advance their careers.< /p> TEXEM Advert

"We won't stop at the Lagos tournament alone as the plan is to take it to Abuja and Awka to give budding talents from those cities and surrounding areas the same opportunities"

"I know there are budding talents in the north and south-east of the country, so we want to see them in action as well and choose the best ones to benefit from the ambitious plans we have for them", he concluded.< /p> Support the integrity and credibility journalism of PREMIUM TIMES Good journalism is very expensive.
