What happened at the meeting of Obasanjo, Tinubu—Gbajabiamila

The SPEAKER of the House of Representatives, the Honorable Femi Gbajabiamila, states that according to what happened during the meeting between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC ), Senator Bola Tinubu, Tinubu's victory is assured in 2023.

Gbajabiamila made the statement on Thursday while speaking at the Surulere Local Government Area (LGA) APC meeting in Surulere, Lagos, News Agency of Nigeria reported ( NOPE). Gbajabiamila, who was present at the closed meeting between Obasanjo and Tinubu on Wednesday in Abeokuta, said from what he heard there, Tinubu's presidency is almost a reality.

He said Obasanjo had made encouraging statements about Tinubu's aspiration and even prayed for the APC presidential candidate.

Gbajabiamila said: “When we went to Obasanjo, there were eight of us, including Tinubu and myself; we didn't want many people to know about the meeting. So we had to meet Obasanjo and five other people from his side.

"But when we finally got there, we encountered something pleasantly shocking: a gigantic crowd of our supporters was already at the former president's house waiting for us.

"So Obasanjo told Tinubu to choose three people from his side and that he would choose three from his side to meet behind closed doors.

“So I, Chief Osoba and Chief Akande and Tinubu have gone to our side. My people, what I heard there, what Obasanjo said, Asiwaju victory is assured .

"Obasanjo spoke for a long time and we were all happy. He embraced our candidate like a brother, patted him on the back and prayed heartily for him.

Gbajabiamila said from what analysts and observers had been saying, the 2023 election was going to be a three-horse race by three leading candidates.

He added, however, that Tinubu was the candidate with the best performance and network record. Gbajabiamila said he had no doubt that Tinubu would win the presidential election.

He urged party followers in the various wards that make up the Surulere Local Government Area to work diligently for the victory of Tinubu and all APC candidates in Surulere in 2023.

He added, "Next year's elections will be important in our country, and we all need to make the right decision.

“By all indications, there are three leading candidates in the election. We know everyone's records, we know what they did and what they didn't do.

"Two were former governors and we know the one whose track record is enduring and we know how the others fared during their tenure.

"But one thing is a fact: none of the three contestants hold Tinubu's records.

"He is the best of them all and I have no doubt in my mind that he will win in 2023."

Gbajabiamila thanked the people of the local government area for their support and for giving them the opportunity to serve them.

He said he considered being elected an honor and would continue to deliver on his campaign promises to impact life in the region. Also taking the floor, Mr. Sulaiman Yusuf, Chairman of Surulere Local Government, thanked Gbajabiamila for all he had done in the area.

He said that the many projects the President had facilitated in Surulere had made the work of the council easier.
