Cause of actress Anne Heche's death revealed

Heche suffered severe anoxic brain damage in the accident, as People previously reported, and was in a coma before his death. On August 11, Heche's representative said the actor was not expected to survive and was being kept on life support to determine his eligibility for organ donation.

Heche drove his car into a residence in the Mar Vista neighborhood of Los Angeles on August 5. His car caught fire, the LAPD confirmed in a press release. On Dec. 7, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office revealed that Heche died of "inhalation and thermal injuries," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The report also listed "a fractured sternum due to blunt trauma" as a "significant condition" in his death, which was listed as accidental.
