#AdamawaDecides2023: Tension as INEC delays announcement of LGA final results until Monday

There was tension at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Yola, the Adamawa state capital, in the early hours of Monday following the suspension of the collection of election results. gubernatorial election in the state.

INEC officials had postponed the announcement of the election result in the remaining local government area, Fufore, until Monday noon.

Some party officials were not happy with the decision, however.

An observer from the Center for Journalism and Development (CJID) told PREMIUM TIMES that journalists were initially ordered to leave the assembly center by disgruntled officers who raised their eyebrows about an act perceived criminal.

After granting access and resuming the process, the results of two of the three pending local governments of Michika and Song were taken.

With 20 local governments declared, Adamawa State Governor and People's Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate Ahmadu Fintiri leads in 13 local government areas.

Mr. Fintiri currently has a total of 401,113 votes

For her part, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Aisha Dahiru (popularly known as Binani) has a total of 365,498 votes, having won in the other seven local government areas.

Although Binani's performance has excited many Nigerians, as she could become the first Nigerian woman to be elected as a state governor, her chance to eclipse the incumbent now lies in securing massive votes from Fufore, the only LGA yet to be officially announced.

Already, PDP and APC officials are pointing fingers at each other, saying steps are being taken behind the scenes to alter the outcome

“As things stand, no one can leave the state collection center and tugs are blocking all major roads into and out of the INEC office,” the observer from the state said. CJID.
