Adeleke graduated in 24 days — Witness

Chairman of the Osun State Chieftaincy Affairs Review Committee, Revd. Samuel Bunmi Jenyo, who claimed to be Governor Ademola Adeleke's personal assistant, said the governor graduated in 24 days. Reverend Jenyo said Adeleke graduated from Penn Foster High School on July 16, 2021 and graduated from Atlanta Metropolitan College on August 9, 2021.

Jenyo made the revelation last Thursday while testifying before the court headed by Judge Tertsea Kume during the resumed hearing of the petition filed by former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress (APC ) against the declaration of Ademola Adeleke as governor of the state.

Oyetola and the APC dispute Governor Adeleke's statement on two grounds: overvoting and eligibility to run in light of alleged inconsistencies in his certificates.

Rev. Jenyo presented certificates from Adeleke, carrying Penn Foster High School and Atlanta Metropolitan State College. He also told the Tribunal during cross-examination that although he had never worked at any of the institutions believed to have been frequented by the Governor, part of his responsibility as Adeleke's personal assistant was to retain the governor's personal documents, giving him access to his certificates and academic details. The witness also testified that although his international passport does not show that he attended Adeleke's graduation in the United States, he stated that he attended the graduation ceremony. After cross-examination, Adeleke's attorney closed his case.

Subsequently, PDP's attorney, Alex Izinyon, SAN, also opened his case and told the panel that he would not call any witnesses but would rely on the evidence of the other two respondents . He then presented documents and closed his file.

It will be recalled that when Governor Adeleke was in contention in 2018, he claimed to have registered for GCE O' Level in 1981 but had F9 in English language and was recorded absent for other subjects.

Also at the time, his profile on the National Assembly website also stated that he had a criminology degree certificate from Jacksonville State University (JSU), from which he reportedly graduated in 1986.

But when he returned from overseas this year to contest July's gubernatorial election, the governor claimed he received a degree in the middle of last year and that said certificate qualified him for a B.Sc. in Criminal Justice from Atlanta Metropolitan State College in the United States. And he claimed to have graduated just 24 days after getting the said degree certificate.

In the meantime, the court has adjourned until January 13, 2023 for the parties involved to adopt their final written addresses.
