AfDB's TAAT Initiative Wins Excellence Award

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has been named the winner of the "Salute to Excellence" award for the Bank's communication around its Technologies for African Agriculture Transformation (TAAT) program, by the most large American organization of journalists and media professionals of color.< /p>

The online campaign showcased the impact of TAAT providing climate-smart agricultural technologies to millions of African farmers, helping African nations produce more food.

The awards were announced over the weekend at a gala event at the joint National Association of Black Journalists and National Association of Hispanic Journalists convention at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Bank's Vice President for Agriculture, Human and Social Development, Dr. Beth Dunford, said: "This recognition of the National Association of Black Journalists comes at a time when African food security and world is under threat due to Russia's war in Ukraine.

In July, the Bank's Board of Directors approved new financing of $30 million for the TAAT program, which overall aims to increase Africa's food production by 100 million tons and produce 40 million people out of poverty by 2025.

The Bank's digital campaign showcases some of the millions of African farmers who have benefited from wheat, maize and other certified climate-adapted seed varieties, fertilizers and technical assistance funded by TAAT since launch of the program in 2018.

The AfDB said the main campaign video examines TAAT operations in Sudan and Ethiopia, where government-led collaboration with the Bank and its partners is boosting wheat production to record levels.

In Ethiopia, TAAT helped seed companies produce and distribute enough certified heat-tolerant wheat varieties and helped farmers expand production to other regions last season, enabling the Ethiopia to produce enough grain to eliminate wheat imports for the first time in modern history.
