Beginning of the African Climate Summit

Africa is minutes away from the start of the first Africa Climate Summit, whose theme is “Promoting Green Growth and Climate Finance Solutions for Africa and the World”.

The event, supported by the President of Kenya, William Ruto, brings together 24 Heads of State and Government from Africa and beyond at the Kenyatta International Convention Center in Nairobi, Kenya.

The summit aims to address the growing exposure to climate change and its associated costs, with a focus on Africa.

It would also serve as a platform to inform, frame and influence commitments, pledges and results, ultimately leading to the development of the Nairobi Declaration.

Apart from the unpleasant experiences many people had in the accreditation centers yesterday, everything seems to be going well this morning.

Guest speakers at the opening session are the President of Kenya, William Ruto, the President of Comoros, Azali Assoumani, and the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Simon Stiell.< /p>

One of the highlights of today's event is the opening session themed "The Power of Potential".

This session sets the stage for the AEC and Africa Climate Week and will showcase Africa's potential to address climate challenges.

It also highlights the need for a fairer financial system and highlights Africa's position as it heads towards the 28th Conference of the Parties, from the last week of November until the beginning of December .

Ruto arrived at Tsavo Auditorium at 8:57 p.m. sharp, amid the band's marching bands.

At the African Youth Climate Assembly yesterday, young people from across Africa presented a copy of their statement to the President of Kenya, William Ruto.

Today, representatives of youth groups and indigenous peoples will also present their statement.
