E-commerce group Alibaba will become the first Chinese company to use Meta's open-source artificial intelligence (AI) model, Llama, to power zero-cost program development.

According to an initial report by Reuters, which cites an official statement from Alibaba Cloud via its WeChat account, it has deployed a solution based on Llama 2 to enable enterprises to develop software and tools using AI:< /p>

"Today, Alibaba Cloud launched the first training and deployment solution for the entire Llama2 series in China, inviting all developers to create large custom models on Alibaba Cloud."

Meta's Llama 2 model was released in July 2023 as a free service rivaling pioneers including OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Bard. Meta intends to make Llama 2 free to use for businesses with less than 700 million monthly active users.

Meta's announcement emphasized that Microsoft remains its preferred partner to develop its generative AI tool while Llama 2 will be freely available for research and commercial use.

Meta also said it takes an open approach and provides increased access to foundational AI technology for the benefit of businesses around the world.
