Alleged fraud: Let the court decide, says Ogun chairman

The Speaker of Ogun State Assembly, Hon. Olakunle Oluomo has urged his critics to allow the relevant court to rule on a petition filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Tribune Online recalled that Oluomo appeared in court on 11 counts of alleged fraud and embezzlement of Assembly funds.

The President, in a personally signed statement made available to reporters, when he took over the Assembly Complex, said he maintained his innocence of the allegations.

He said, "I want the court to decide, because the hyperbolic nature of the petitions written by the deposed former vice president, Dare Kadiri, is also reflected in the charges.

"According to the law, I am not the accountant of the Chamber, to point out that the Chamber under my direction has only managed one bank account since 2019, through which operating costs and allowances are paid directly into the bank accounts of individual Honorable Members and House staff, including the petitioner.

“Furthermore, counts 10 and 11 pertain to the eighth Parliament before I became president.

“I also like to say that the refusal to honor the initial invitation of the EFCC was due to the fact that the method adopted by the EFCC is contrary to Article 36 of the Constitution and that we challenged in court, it is in the public domain as it was widely reported, but the EFCC refused to wait for the decision in this case before taking further action, despite telling us of our problems in court.

"I have always been disciplined and upright in my standing, my conduct and my dealings with people, I will continue to remain myself with truth and honor as my goal. I thank all those who have shown love and interest these past few days. Thank you and God bless you all."
