AMAA 2022: organizers unveil week-long activities

The organizers of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) have announced week-long activities for the 18th edition.

This was announced by AMAA Media Director Tope Ajayi in a statement officially announcing the venue for the 2022 edition.

Ajayi explained that AMAA 2022 will be held in the bespoke Jewel Aeida venue at Lekki Phase I and will have so much glamour, while retaining its essence of gratifying professionalism and technicality of cinema across the African continent and the Diaspora.

The Director of Media continued the rollout of the activities planned for the event by clarifying that the 18th edition of the continental awards ceremony will begin with the graduation of trainees by the African Film Academy on November 25 2022.

The graduation ceremony will be followed by Wellness Day on November 27, 2022, while on November 28, 2022, dignitaries and fashion enthusiasts will be invited to a series of lectures including discussions on the diaspora , talks about music and movies, and a roundup with a fashion show.

The Nominees Night is scheduled to follow on Saturday, November 29, 2022, while the AMAA Gala will take place on November 30, 2022.

Some of the dignitaries expected to grace the occasion include Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Commissioner for Culture, Arts and Tourism, Pharm Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, filmmaker Bolanle Austen Peters, whose film 'Man Of God' earned more than five nominations, including Best Director, Best Actor and Best actress, described the AMAAs as a rewarding platform needed to nurture up-and-coming filmmakers in Africa.

"It's not just about awards, it's about getting people recognized for their work. Making movies isn't easy and we need the AMAA to continue the good job of nurturing up-and-coming filmmakers on the continent."

Past AMAA winners include Kelechi Udegbe, Wilmah Muremera - Shaina, Obi Emenloye, Hazel Hinda, Omar Abdi, Joan Agaba, Chuko and Aiye Esiri, Lady Buckit & the Motley Mopster, The Citation, Eyimofe and Grave Digger among many others.
