Anambra Govt Rescues Tutor Impregnated Teen, Arrests Culprit
A 13-year-old girl who recently gave birth to a baby in Anambra State has been rescued from her guardian and placed in safer custody by the State Ministry of Women and Child Welfare .
The teenage mother (name withheld) said she was put in the way of the family by her guardian, whom she simply identified as Mr. Sunday.
News of her giving birth broke on social media over the weekend, leading the Department of State for the Protection of Women and Children to seek her out.
She was rescued by the ministry team and taken to a safer location.
Ministry spokesperson Miss Chidimma Ikeanyionwu disclosed to reporters on Monday, adding that Mr Sunday, who impregnated the teenager, was arrested by the ministry team on Sunday evening and handed over to the police.
In an interview, the teenager said that she is from Akwa Ibom State while her biological parents stay in Agulu, Anambra State.
She explained that she was not the only victim involved in her guardian's talent for defiling children, adding that the defilement began when the culprit's wife visited the village.
"Mr. Sunday's wife is known as Mrs. Ghana. It started when Mrs. Ghana visited the village. I am not the only one involved. There is another girl who is seven years old , Mr. Sunday also slept with her.
"I once told Mrs. Ghana about it, and she warned her husband, but when it continued, there was not much I could do," the victim said.
Speaking further, Ikeanyionwu said the culprit will soon be charged in court.
Ikeanyionwu quoted Women and Children Protection Commissioner, Ify Obinabo, as saying that the Anambra State government would not tolerate such indecent acts and that as many people engage in such acts, the government will ensure that they are not free.< /p>
