A 40-year-old unemployed man defiles a 15-year-old girl

An Ikeja Magistrate's Court remanded an unemployed 40-year-old, George Ukpong, to Kirikiri Correctional Center on Thursday for allegedly desecrating a 15-year-old girl.

Nigeria News Agency reported that the magistrate, Mrs. E. Kubeinje, who did not accept Ukpong's appeal, ordered that the file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

Kubeinje adjourned the case until March 22 for advice from the DPP.

Earlier, prosecution attorney DSP Kehinde Ajayi told the court that Ukpong committed the offense on February 19 at Jaiye Oba Street, Shasha, Lagos.

Ajayi said that Ukpong lured the girl to his room and defiled her.

He said the accused was caught by neighbors.

Ajayi stated that the offense violates the provisions of Section 137 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

NAN reports that the section stipulates life imprisonment if found guilty.

Meanwhile, a Dei-Dei Regional Court of First Degree in Abuja on Thursday sentenced two tax collectors, Yahuza Mohammed and Yusuf Dahiru, to four months in prison for causing injury.

NAN reports that police have charged 26-year-old Mohammed and 23-year-old Dahiru with criminal force, assault and grievous bodily harm

The judge, Saminu Suleiman, sentenced the convicts after pleading guilty to the charge and asking for leniency from the court.

Sulieman, gave the convicts an option of fine N20,000 each and warned them to refrain from committing crimes.

The judge ordered the convicts to pay 15,000 naira as restitution to the plaintiff.

Earlier, prosecution attorney Olanipekun Babajide told the court that the matter was reported to Zuba Police Station, Abuja by the plaintiff, Kashim Musa.

Babajide said the convicts demanded payment for a ticket to enter the Dan-Kogi car park in Zuba.

He said the convict also accused the plaintiff of parking the wrong way and while he was trying to explain himself the convicts attacked him without provocation.

He said the convicts beat the plaintiff and he was injured.

The prosecutor added that the convicts damaged the ignition key of the plaintiff's car.

Babajide said the plaintiff was rushed to hospital for treatment.

He told the court that during the police investigation, the convicts confessed to committing the crime.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Articles 268 and 311 of the Penal Code.
