Trump Town Hall

Former President Donald Trump does another town hall on cable, this time for Fox News and with Sean Hannity in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The hour-long event, scheduled for Tuesday, July 18, will be pre-recorded earlier during the day at Alliant Arena of the energy plant. Trump already has another Fox News appearance on his schedule: An interview with Maria Bartiromo will air on Sunday Morning Futures this Sunday. This one-on-one will also be pre-recorded.

Hannity and Bartiromo are friendly interviewers for the former president, and the lineup comes as Fox News gears up for a potential ratings blockbuster: the first Republican primary debate of 2024, scheduled for August 23.

As the frontrunner for the GOP nomination, Trump's participation would likely make a big difference in the grades. In 2015, Fox News hosted the first primary debate, when Trump instantly clashed with a moderator and political rivals, and it drew an estimated 24 million viewers.

But Trump is 'unlikely' to participate in early debates, adviser Jason Miller told NewsNation Tuesday. Miller said, per , "He's up 30, 40, and even new polls show he's up almost 50% in some places. It really wouldn't make sense for him to go debate right now with a group of people who are at three, four and five percent. Miller, however, said Trump hasn't made a final decision.

The debate hosted by Fox News will be moderated by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum. Trump sat down with Baier for an interview last month, and the Fox News anchor was praised for his questioning of the former president on issues including his handling of classified documents and his false claims that the election of 2020 had been rigged. Trump then slammed Baier for a "nasty" interview while on the network, saying they were pushing rival Ron DeSantis. That said, Murdoch-owned media has been giving DeSantis the past few weeks.
