Apple App Store review: Amazon's Prime video claims the crown, bolstered by exclusive rights to Thursday Night Football

Amazon.com Inc's AMZN Shopping app has long been the most popular, but thanks to new Prime member benefits, Amazon's Prime Video app won first place in Apple Inc.'s AAPL App Store last week.

The second Thursday Night Football game took place the following day and was the first game for which Amazon had exclusive broadcast rights.

After signing a deal worth around $1 billion a year, Amazon has exclusive rights to Thursday night football games until 2033 and it looks like its fruit immediately.

Prime averaged 13 million viewers for its first live broadcast, according to Nielsen data.

The Prime Video app saw an increase in download volume and usage on game day, pushing the app up the App Store rankings. It was ranked third on match day and took first place in the iOS App Store the next day.
