Arsenal defender in Premier League's uncapped best XI alongside £70m signing

Arsenal defender Gabriel and non-England striker Ivan Toney remain in an uncapped XI and absolutely will until at least 2023. They are in good company…

Goalkeeper: Illan Meslier (Leeds United, not France) Never closer to a full call-up, but for now Meslier remains eligible for the France Under-21 squad and should stay there until after the European Championship. By then, France and Tottenham will need a long-term successor for Hugo Lloris, soon to be 36, and Meslier could be in contention for a double promotion. Maybe by then he will look a little over 12.

Right-back: Tino Livramento (Southampton, not England) Maybe just 'not England' because he's been missing for seven months with an ACL injury, although playing at right-back is a poor choice for any Englishman's international hopes; Tariq Lamptey passed through Ghana when he saw the traffic in front of him.

Centre-back: Wesley Fofana (Chelsea, not France) Konate, all aged 24 or under. Meanwhile, England remain loyal to Harry Maguire.

Central defender: Gabriel (Arsenal, not Brazil) He sat on the Brazilian bench a few times, but Gabriel didn't make it, missing out on that World Cup squad while the other two Gabriels d 'Arsenal got the nod. He keeps Max Kilman (limited to futsal) and Sven Botman (limited to swingball) clear of a very strong, uncapped central defence.

Left-back: Ryan Sessegnon (Tottenham, not England) Impossible as he was sent to Hoffenheim on loan. Now the truth lies somewhere in between.

Central midfielder: Romeo Lavia (Southampton, not Belgium) Picking up very cheap young players from the biggest clubs who don't even realize they've left could work well for Southampton, who have bought Lavia moved to Manchester City for £12million in the summer and reportedly rejected a £50million move from Chelsea a few weeks later. Uncapped so far - he's still only 18 - but that's unlikely to remain the case for long, with some of the former Belgians surely set to retire after this World Cup.

Central midfielder: Joelinton (Newcastle United, not Brazil)"Of course, getting into the Brazil team is an ambition. It's a dream. I hope I can do it. My game is getting better. improving and if i continue like this i hope it will be a reality.Although i haven't heard anything from brazil yet.Joelinton was watched by brazil boss Tite last month but he still decided to stay with Fred, which must be a kick in the nuts.

Right-winger: Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace, not England) Apparently named in Gareth Southgate's initial 55-man squad for the World Cup, but not exactly an exclusive club. We're playing him slightly out of position here, but really, it could be him or Michael Olise in this XI. Eze is slightly ahead of his team-mate and has scored or assisted five Premier League goals this season.

Attacking midfielder: Harvey Elliott (Liverpool, not England) This is by no means a great Liverpool side, but the 19-year-old is holding firm in midfield after returning from his devastating injury. “We have all forgotten how good he was a year ago and he was a year younger before all the unnecessary stuff happened. He is, he is so good,” Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said. Full honors from England are only a matter of time.

Left winger: Allan Saint-Maximin (Newcastle United, not France) "Hope Didier Deschamps had his Canal+ codes" was the tweet that was later deleted and replaced with the far more diplomatic "Seriously, Of course I know." that the Blues [France] are at a very, very high level and that requires a lot of things because there is already quality in attack! But what is certain is that I am determined to continue killing myself on the pitch to be part of it one day”. He can claim injury kept him out of France's World Cup squad.

Striker: Ivan Toney (Brentford, not England) The longer this crazy game went on, the more absolutely you knew there was no way Harry Kane would pull through. Which means Toney stayed on the...
