Scammers are piling up to impersonate Worldcoin on Twitter after the token's launch

Several fake accounts on Twitter - currently renamed to X - were sending malicious links to users after the launch of the Worldcoin human identity verification token.

July 24 marked the renaming of Twitter with the letter "X" as well as the launch of the Worldcoin token. Although the rebranding has drawn mixed reactions online, the social media platform has not changed its view purchase or request policy. different colored checkmarks based on account type - a policy that came into effect in December 2022 when Elon Musk was CEO.

Since launching its Twitter account in August 2009 and later earning a golden tick for business, Worldcoin has seen a number of imitators pop up. Although dozens, if not hundreds, of fake Twitter accounts bear the Worldcoin logo and variations of its name, at least seven at one point showed a blue check mark, forcing the scammer to pay $8 per month. /p>

At press time, Twitter had suspended many of these fake accounts posing as an airdrop for the Worldcoin token on followers. Many fake accounts created before the launch of the Worldcoin token have also increased the frequency of their tweets since July 24.
