Bad news for Chelsea and Man Utd as Man City prepare to 'break the bank' with 'monstrous' offer for defender

Man City are ready to 'break the bank' for RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol as they consider making a bid for the World Cup star, according to reports.

The Croatian defender was already on the radars of a number of top European clubs, but his brilliant performances at the World Cup took his stock to another level.

Chelsea and Man Utd have been linked more than most with the centre-back, with Gvardiola helping Croatia progress to the World Cup semi-finals before being knocked out by Argentina.

Reports from the summer claimed that Chelsea had submitted a €90m offer for Gvardiol, but it was turned down and he subsequently signed a new deal with Leipzig until 2027.

However, Gvardiola recently flirted with the idea that he could move to Chelsea in the future, but insisted he was 'happy' with the Bundesliga outfit.

"About Chelsea and me? I don't know. You know what's been going on in the last few months. To be honest, I have no idea," Gvardiol told The Athletic earlier this month.

"My agent is taking care of it and we'll see. At the moment I'm happy in Leipzig. I don't know, we'll see, you never know.

"You know the stories and those things, but all I can say is that I'm happy in Leipzig and now I'm going to stay there and play for them."

Man Utd have reportedly already made a 'crazy €95m offer' for Gvardiol ahead of the January transfer window as the race for his signature heats up.

And now journalist Alfredo Pedulla claims Gvardiol's performances at the World Cup have 'raised hell' for the transfer market with Real Madrid and Manchester City entering the race.

He's on Real's 'wishlist' but it's Man City who are considering 'breaking the bank' for the 20-year-old, with the Premier League side contacting Leipzig to place a deal. "130 million euros, bonus included". and/or a percentage of future sales'.

Man City are in "close contract with Leipzig" over a deal for Gvardiol and are ready to "double" Real's €6m-a-season wage offer, with AS describing the Citizens' proposed package as " monstrous".

Man City are using 'the power of money' to beat Real Madrid, Chelsea and Man Utd until Gvardiol is signed as things stand, with AS highlighting huge wage offer to bring Erling Haaland at the Etihad Stadium this summer.
