Bills defense holds key to silencing Mahomes in Kansas City

The Buffalo Bills will be keen to get revenge on the Chiefs, after seeing their last two seasons come to a disappointing climax in Kansas City, including a 42-36 overtime loss in the Divisional Round this year.

Widely tipped as the favorites to go all the way this season, the Bills enter the Week 6 contest after beating the Pittsburgh Steelers 38-3 last week.

It was their second win by at least 34 points this season, having won several such wins in just two previous seasons (1992 and 2021).

Against the Steelers, Gabe Davis had two touchdown receptions of at least 60 yards and finished with 171 yards, bringing his yardage for the season to 309. An in-form Davis is a scary prospect, especially when he's partnered with Josh Allen - who leads the NFL in passing yards this season (1,651).

The Chiefs have their own devastating weapon to lead the offense, however, with Patrick Mahomes just guiding his team to a 30-29 win over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 5 - the 40th occasion the Chiefs have have scored at least 30 points since Mahomes took over as a full-time starter in 2018.

Ranking fifth in passing yards this season (1,398), Mahomes has thrown more TD passes than anyone else in 2022 (15) and has a TD with 7.9% of his passes, behind only Lamar Jackson (8.1%).

In Travis Kelce, the Chiefs also boast the player with the most touchdowns in 2022, with four of his seven touchdowns last week – despite only 25 receiving yards in the game.

With elite quarterbacks and receivers on both sides, defenses could decide the outcome of the game and the Bills were relentless with their ability to keep opposing attacks at bay, allowing 61 points overall over five games - only the San Francisco 49ers (61) have less.

On top of that, the Bills defense has allowed just three passing touchdowns this season, again trailing only the 49ers (two), and ranks second in average yards allowed per game (260.4), which means it could be a frustrating game for Mahomes and company on Sunday.
