Black Stars don't think revenge against Uruguay - Coach Addo

Coach Otto Addo believes the Black Stars still have a strong chance of qualifying from Group H despite losing 3-2 to Portugal on Matchday 1.

“At the moment it looks like Portugal, but if they had been a bit unlucky we could have drawn with them,” coach Addo revealed in his pre-match press conference at the Qatar National Convention Center on Sunday.

“So you see, anything is possible. Uruguay are good, South Korea too. They are an equal group, anything can happen and there can be surprises. Portugal is at the top of the group."

When asked what memories the Ghana team have against the Uruguayans, who through Luis Suarez's blatant handball robbed Ghana of a place in the semi-finals of the 2010 World Cup , Coach Addo said his and his team's target is only their next match, which is against South Korea.

The coach promised his team will show the same passion they showed against Portugal. "It's the big stage and everyone is hungry to play. Practice is good which makes it hard to decide who to play."

"The pressure of coaching the Ghana national team is no pressure compared to the pressure of looking for something to eat," he repeated when asked if he or his team were under pressure to win. "It's not about pressure on young players but on good players. I didn't see any pressure. We were looking forward to playing well and we did well.”

"We showed that we can compete with them," coach Addo replied when he learned that the Ghanaians thought the Black Stars had respected the Portuguese team too much, especially in the first half.

"I know there's been a lot of criticism because we made mistakes. It's kind of funny sometimes that…say, Baba Rahman, for example, yeah he made a mistake, but he also created our two goals. People like to pick this and that but I think overall it was very good. The boys did well and I hope we do it again and there's a reward at the end."

Without revealing his plan for Monday's game, Coach Addo praised his players for adapting quickly to the tactics and plan he decides for the matches.
