Brentford 3-2 Fulham: Ivan Toney scores penalty as Bees continue incredible invincibility

Ivan Toney scored a penalty as Brentford beat London rivals Fulham 3-2 to make it 12 Premier League games unbeaten.

The striker took his tally for the season to 16 with another killer kick to help sink the local rivals the Bees.

Unfortunately for Brentford and Toney, should they succeed in their unlikely bid to reach the Europa League, they may have to enter without their talisman.

Toney faces a lengthy ban after being charged with a total of 262 alleged violations of Football Association gambling laws dating back to 2017.

But as he promised this week in a social media post questioning the confidentiality of the FA investigation, Toney is focused on his football.

He got his first goal sight with just two minutes on the clock, collecting the ball at the edge of the box before curling a low shot to the corner which Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno pushed away hard.< /p>

Moments later, Toney's attacking partner Bryan Mbeumo missed the simplest of chances, coming in at the far post to meet Rico Henry's cross and shoot wide from four yards.

Mbeumo was then denied by Leno's outstretched leg before Brentford's lightning fast start was rewarded with a goal after just six minutes.

Fulham failed to manage a corner and Ethan Pinnock's drive deflected past Fulham captain Tim Ream to leave Leno helpless.

Mbeumo nearly scored the brace with a curling free kick that flew narrowly wide and Toney attempted an unorthodox pass with his back that nearly found Yoane Wissa, before the 26-year-old hit the bar transverse with a free kick.< /p>

Moments later, and completely against the run of play, Fulham equalized with a free kick of their own.

Andreas Pereira's effort from the edge of the box hit the crossbar and bounced back as Manor Solomon nodded into an empty net for his fifth goal in five matches.

Serbia midfielder Sasa Lukic, who was making his Fulham debut with Joao Palhinha suspended, was lucky to escape a second caution just before half-time when he tripped Wissa as the winger was threatening to clear on goal.

Brentford took the lead five minutes into the second half when Issa Diop was penalized for the slightest kick in the foot by Christian Norgaard.

Toney stepped in to calmly convert his 21st penalty from the 21 he took for Brentford, extending the Bees' unbeaten streak to 12 Premier League games and keeping them in the hunt for Europe.

Toney nearly had another one with an outrageous midline effort that floated just overhead.

Instead, Mathias Jensen doubled the lead with five minutes left when he fended off a backhand from substitute Kevin Schade, before Carlos Vinicius pulled one back for Fulham in stoppage time .
