CAC denies registering 'Wickedness Association' as a business entity

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on Monday dismissed a complaint that it registered “Wickedness Association of Nigeria, Lokoja Chapter” as a trade name.

According to the commission, a "registration certificate" containing the name of the "association" was circulating on social networks claiming that the "association" was registered on December 24, 2022, with the registration number BN 74101.

In a statement, the commission called the certificate "false, false and falsified".

The commission declared that the name and object of the "association" violate the provisions of section 852 (1)(c) in that they are undesirable, offensive and contrary to public order .

He also said that the officer who allegedly signed the certificate had retired from commission service long before the date the certificate was allegedly issued.

It read, "We wish to state categorically that the purported certificate of registration of 'Nigeria Branch Wickedness Association Lokoja' was not and could not be issued by the commission for the following reasons:

"The commission does not register associations as trade names. The name and subject matter of "association" violates the provisions of section 852(1)(c) in that they are undesirable, offensive and contrary to public order.

"The officer who allegedly signed the certificate had retired from commission service long before the date the certificate was allegedly issued."

The CAC called on Nigerians to ignore the 'certificate' as it did not come from its office.

“Accordingly, the general public is hereby informed that the so-called registration certificate of “Nigeria Branch Wickedness Association Lokoja” is bogus, bogus and a forgery. It is wicked and fraudulent “, says the press release.
