Chlöe fondly recalls seeing her sister in 'The Little Mermaid' trailer for the first time

Halle Bailey may now be Ariel, but to Chlöe, she's still her little sister. During an April 12 appearance on "The Drew Barrymore Show," Chlöe recalled her emotional reaction to seeing her sister in the live-action trailer for "Little Mermaid" for the first time. "I was screaming and crying," Chlöe told Barrymore.

The singer said she was getting ready for the Oscars after-party in March, and "dropped everything" to see her sister play the beloved mermaid in the latest trailer. "She's a real mermaid, a mermaid, graceful in all her beauty," Chlöe said, "and people can see what I've always seen since we were little girls."

Chlöe also spoke about the portrayal of Halle's portrayal: "What she's going to do for all the young kids around the world, to see her, to know that they can be anything they want to be , it doesn't matter what society tells them - I know it's going to be so inspiring, and it even inspires me. I'm the proudest big sister in the whole world."

"People can see what I've always seen since we were little girls."

Halle's initial casting was groundbreaking for a number of reasons. For one thing, she's the first black actress to portray Ariel, and only the second to play a Disney princess (the other being Anika Noni Rose, the voice of Princess Tiana). Despite some backlash, this is a major win for representation in Disney films, and as Halle told POPSUGAR in November 2022, it still makes her emotional. "I feel super honored to be able to take on a role like this," she said. "It really makes me pinch myself sometimes. It doesn't feel real, but I'm really grateful for the overall response, especially from the babies. They keep me going. Seeing all of their reactions just makes me cry and fills me with such joy."

"The Little Mermaid" premieres May 26.
