County Championship: Derbyshire and Leicestershire draw ends in confusion

When Leicestershire were knocked out for 281, a 53 lead, they there were only three overs left and with two to retire for the break between innings, that would have left Derbyshire with just six balls to score the runs.

But confusion over the rules left refs and teams believing there were three overs to play and a 20-minute delay ensued before the game was over with Colin Ackermann crossing an over to save Leicestershire from losing a point for a slow passing rate.

"We thought we had 18 balls there and we were gonna give it a full crack but it was a little harder at six.

"I think they were just calculating to make sure they got it right and obviously it was only right that there was only one left."

Leicestershire head coach Paul Nixon said: "We have called the ECB on around eight occasions to get some procedural clarification.

"We always thought this was the over in which you were plus two who were kidnapped. The ECB makes a lot of rule changes for the betterment of the game every year and I haven't heard of them.

"Peter Such (the match referee) had spoken to the referees this...
