COVID-19: As Nigeria relaxes travel protocols, NCDC to provide bi-weekly situation reports

Following the relaxation of COVID-19 travel protocols by the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has shifted from weekly updates to bi-weekly situation reports on the pandemic.< /p>

The NCDC disclosed this in a public health notice issued Wednesday, noting that the latest development is the “result of its recent assessments of the COVID-19 situation in the country.”

The CPS on Monday approved the easing of all COVID-19 safety measures and travel advisories, including the lifting of traveler protocols, the mandatory use of face masks in public spaces and restrictions on mass gatherings.

The Center for Disease Control, however, has urged Nigerians to get vaccinated, complete their vaccination dose and ensure other basic preventive measures.

Relaxation of travel protocol

PREMIUM TIMES previously reported that a memorandum issued to all airline operators by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nigeria (NCAA) noted that the use of face masks inside airport terminals airport and on board aircraft by airport employees, passengers and crew members is no longer mandatory

While he added that the new protocol no longer requires the sanitization of bags at the entrance to terminal buildings, he indicated that people aged 60 and over, immunocompromised and with comorbidities are encouraged to continue to use face masks.

Airlines are also invited to resume the catering service (meals and drinks) on board aircraft.

Before the easing, a COVID-19 PCR test had to be performed within 48 hours of departure for all travelers and a mandatory COVID-19 PCR test on day 2 after arrival for those arriving in the country .

However, with the new protocol, quarantine/travel requirements related to COVID-19 are now optional and travel authorization/QR code is no longer required.

According to statistics posted on the NCDC website as of Wednesday, 266,381 infections and 3,155 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. of total eligible people are partially vaccinated.
