The death of Don Jazzy's mother inspired my hit song - Johnny Drille

Sensational Nigerian singer, John Ighodaro, better known as Johnny Drille, has revealed the inspiration behind his hit song “How Are You My Friend”.

He said the death of his label boss Don Jazzy's mother inspired the song.

He revealed it in a recent interview with Hip TV.

Johnny Drille said he co-wrote "How Are You My Friend" with Don Jazzy, adding that the song was Mavin's boss's idea.

He said, "For 'How are you my friend?', the inspiration behind it was that Don Jazzy just lost his mother a few weeks ago.

“I guess maybe that [song] was his way of talking about it because a lot of people contacted him that he hasn’t heard from in years. so hit that, 'Omo, I actually have these many friends I haven't talked to in so long.'

"I also think we're in a pretty tricky time too. The economy is crazy. A lot of people are struggling. A lot of people are going through things in their lives that they sometimes don't feel like comfortable to share. And I guess maybe that's why people were able to connect with the song."
