Nobody told European venture capitalists and startup founders that we were supposed to be on the cusp of a global recession?

With startups and venture capitalists all announcing the end of investment activity around the world, you would think that a market as large as Europe would be quite affected. But European venture capital activity fell only slightly in the second quarter compared to the previous three months. Additionally, venture capital totals on the continent remained robust, leaving it with a stronger than expected seed fundraising result for the first half of the year.

From a macroeconomic point of view, we have plenty of reasons to worry about Europe today. The Russian invasion of Ukraine, slowing global GDP growth, inflation fears and tightening central bank policies are of concern, to name a few. So why were European venture capital results so strong?
