The Imo state government has urged residents of the state not to panic over the huge presence of soldiers in the state.

The Information and Strategy Commissioner, the Honorable Declan Emelumba, has assured that the military, who are in the state for this year's Army Day celebration, pose no threat to the people of Imo. He said the celebration would only last for a week.

In a statement released in Owerri, Emelumba said Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma appreciated the army for choosing Owerri for this year's Army Day celebration because of its benefits security, social and economic for the State.

The Commissioner noted that although the military informed Nigerians a week ago of their impending presence in Imo State, some residents were still concerned.

He urged these people not to panic as the military was on a legitimate mission in the state for the overall benefit of the country in general and the Imo people in particular.

He also urged all residents to go about their lawful duties without any fear of assault.
