Do not tamper with NMDPRA seals – IPMAN warns traders in Kogi

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has warned traders in Kogi State to stop tampering with seals belonging to the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

The Chairman of IPMAN in Kogi State, Hon. Mejid Okomanyi, gave the warning during his meeting with NMDPRA State Coordinator, Engr. Orit Godwin, Monday.

He noted that the warning had become necessary given the ongoing event that led to the arrest of 12 traders for allegedly removing seals and harassing the NMDPRA monitoring team while on duty.

He described the act of removing NMDPRA seals as illegal, noting that the body is committed to upholding the rules governing Nigeria's downstream sector.

Okomanyi called on the NMDPRA leadership to temper justice with mercy, saying that henceforth all IPMAN members caught will face the wrath of the law.

He assured that the two agencies would work together to weed out any trader engaging in edgy practices in all 21 local governments in the state.

In response, Godwin said that the Show Your Storage and Sales License operation is underway in Kogi State.

While noting that business is not business as usual, he claimed that the agency was not there to witch-pick traders, but rather to ensure that those who engage in are shown the way out.

He called on traders with valid licenses to continue to carry out their duties effectively without tampering with their meters or under-distributing to the public.

"The agency will not tolerate any form of acerbic practices by traders in Kogi State. Captured traders will not be spared. They will be punished accordingly without fear or favor. I use this means to ask IPMAN to tell its members to stop any actions that cause them trouble.

"In addition, safety should be their watchword. Fire extinguishers should be checked to ensure that all expired extinguishers are renewed. Good signage, no smoking signs and proper checking of underground storage tanks, especially in this rainy season, to prevent seepage or seepage of water into underground products to avoid damage to vehicles and machinery.

“All faulty pumps must be taken out of service, repaired or repaired as the agency will not accept any form of apology,” he said.
