A Beninese family on Monday urged the Edo State Police Command to produce their son, Ebi Agbomu, who disappeared after a reported arrest in May 2022.

The family told reporters that a series of unsuccessful calls on Ebi's cell phone prompted him to go to his apartment in Country Home Motel Road, Benin, where his roommates said he was arrested by the police.< /p>

The victim's father, Emmanuel Agbomu, claimed that in addition to their son's sudden disappearance, his valuables were also taken away.

He said, "When we didn't hear from him, we decided to go to his neighbors, who are roommates. It was one of them who told us that when the police arrived they were knocking on his door and they (the roommates) thought they were armed robbers. They were afraid to come out, but when he looked out the window, he saw that they were policemen. He went downstairs to ask them where they were taking him.

“We have written petitions to Edo State Police Commissioner Abutu Yaro; Deputy Inspector General of Police, Zone 5, Lawal Tanko Jemita, and Police Force Headquarters Abuja about the incident, all to no avail.

"We call on the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba; and President Muhammadu Buhari to come to our aid and compel the police to produce our son."

Police Area 5 Public Relations Officer Tijani Momoh has confirmed the incident.

He said, "We received their request and we took statements from the plaintiff. We also called the file from the status command because that's where it was first reported.

“In the meantime, we have opened an investigation to find out whether those who arrested him were police officers or not. There are many actions we are taking that cannot be disclosed to the public now. »
