Obasanjo seeks third term through Obi, says Atiku campaign spokesman Bwala
A spokesman for Atiku Abubakar's presidential campaign, Daniel Bwala, said former President Olusegun Obasanjo was seeking a third proxy term by backing Labor Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
Obasanjo has officially backed Obi for the February 25 elections, saying the former Anambra state governor has an advantage over other candidates.
But Bwala, who rejected the development on Monday, said the 2023 election is an election of the people, not of big names.
According to Bwala, "there is nothing in his (Obasanjo's) administration from 1999-2007 that gives him the heavenly powers to dictate our future or the outcome of an election yet to be conducted".
>He said, "In Nigeria today, we have at least 5 former Presidents of Nigeria who are alive and minding their business while playing the role of fathers of the nation, builders of peace, etc. with the affairs of the nation like Obasanjo.
"For the record, Obasanjo, also known as OBJ, served two terms as democratically elected president from 1999 to 2007.
"The traditional posture and role of past presidents has been that of the statesman, one who guides, promotes and nurtures democratic growth and nation building by strengthening institutions, educating and enlightening citizens, by promoting citizen participation in government, but OBJ is the man who believes his role is also to choose and impose presidents at a time, as if we were managing a monarchical system of government.
"He thinks he is the only former ruler who knows what is right for Nigeria, who has the heavenly powers to predict the future of Nigeria and the rulers. He believes it is only his administration who has done well and therefore the power to choose the next leader or president.
“His way of choosing the next president is either to blackmail the incumbent or to disparage the candidates in favor of his choices. He often does this in a letter that he would publish as if it were an epistle to Nigeria on the all-powerful leadership of the country.
“He seems to think we are under military rule. In his letter from 2014 or 2015, he accused GEJ of training snipers to kill citizens, even though it turned out that he this was a false allegation, in his letter from 2018 or 2019 he accused Buhari of trying to divide Nigeria and cause secession, and today he is writing another letter to accuse two other candidates whom he swore they would never rise to the nation's highest seat even though he turned around and backed Atiku in 2019 due to his hatred for BUhari whom he played a part in. bringing to power.
