EPL: Carragher slams Chelsea owner Boehly over bizarre move

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has slammed Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly for making a 'weird' decision this season.

Boehly leads the consortium, which bought Chelsea from Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich this summer.

The American spent over £275m on players and sacked coach Thomas Tuchel, replacing the German with Graham Potter.

He also allowed Petr Cech and Marina Granovskaia to leave the west London club.

"The problem for Graham Potter is that he is at Chelsea," Carragher told The Overlap.

“What I mean by that is that when we talk about the arrival of Erik Ten Hag and Mikel Arteta, who have time to integrate his plans and get transfer windows to get players out, Chelsea history tells you that's not going to happen.

"Will that happen with the new owner? It's hard to see when he [Todd Boehly] got rid of a manager just weeks into the season, especially someone who had won the Champions League for the club.

"I always thought it was a weird decision to get rid of Thomas Tuchel.

"I'm delighted for Graham Potter and to have an England manager in such a big role, but he's never been in that position before, in terms of managing a huge club and managing in the Champions League .

"He brilliantly turned the tide in the Champions League and took them through to the next round.

"In his head he thinks he got off to a good start at Chelsea, but the last two or three games have gone the other way, and he almost feels like it blew up in his face.< /p>

"You look at where Chelsea were at last season - £275m was spent on the team this summer, and you can't believe what you're seeing.

"Their end product was so much worse [than last season] against Brighton and Arsenal, having spent so much money - it's weird."
