Six people, including players and officials of a women's grassroots team, were reportedly abducted by gunmen in Uronigbe, a border community between Edo and Delta states in the area of Orhionmwon local government of Edo State.

Our correspondent learned that the six victims had been kidnapped around 6 p.m. on Friday, when they were returning from a match in Owa-Alero in the Ika Northeast local government area of ​​​​Delta State.

A source in the community said the kidnappers contacted some families demanding a ransom of 5 million naira each for the victims.

He said: "They (the footballers) went to Owa-Alero to play a football match, but on the way back they were kidnapped in Uronigbe region, in the border between Delta and Edo.

“Among the victims are Mrs. Precious Agbajor, a certain Abraham, Nancy, Béatrice, the driver and another person. They are six in number who are in the lair of the kidnapper. The case was reported to the Uronigbe police station.

"The kidnappers contacted Agbajor's family and asked them to pay 5 million naira for his wife."

When contacted, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Bright Edafe confirmed the abduction, adding that the incident occurred in Edo State.

His counterpart in Edo State, Chidi Nwabuzor, said from records available to the state command that there was no information about the incident.< /p>

"You know that we forward our files to Force Headquarters every day. There is no such file in front of us. According to the records of the command, no incident of this type happened yesterday (Friday), so the police will not report anything unreported.

“Only when an incident is reported can the police take action. In most cases, citizens are unaware of incident reporting powers. So the record I have from command is that no such incident occurred yesterday (Friday), today (Saturday) and even the day before yesterday (Thursday)."
