Fire destroys N1.6m goods in Kwara

As much as 1.6 million naira worth of goods were destroyed in a fire at an electronics and furniture store in Ilorin, Kwara State on Thursday.

Kwara Fire Department spokesman Hassan Adekunle in a statement posted on the department's social media account said other assets worth N1.6 billion had however were safely recovered during a salvage operation.

The statement reads: "This morning, July 14, 2022, at approximately 07:49, a Mr. Toyosi from Taiwo area promptly summoned the Kwara State Fire Department for a fire at the Pillar Mega Show Room (Major Electronics & Furniture Dealer) located at 72 Taiwo Road, Ilorin, Kwara State.

"We eliminated the devastating fire in time and saved the mega store from destruction," the senior officer said.

"The officer added that they were able to save the day due to their quick response and the officer's versatility.

“The report states that the outbreak was the result of spontaneous ignition. The estimated property saved was N1.6 billion and the estimated property lost was N1.6 million.

"Therefore, Kwara State Fire Department Director Prince Falade Olumuyiwa has urged the general public, especially store management, to be more safety conscious in playing it safe at any time."
