Five Lagos men in court for murder and kidnapping

A Lagos State Magistrate's Court sitting in Yaba has ordered the remand in custody of five people allegedly involved in kidnappings, murders and armed robberies in the 'State.

The accused are Lateef Kazeem, Eric Adetola, Sanusi Momoh, Samuel Anuoluwapo and Adamson Olayinka.

It has been established that the defendants were arrested by men from the State Criminal Investigation Department for abducting, killing a person, Emmanuel Ezeike, in Abule Ado in January, and the defrauding N2m as well as stealing from other victims.

The defendants were arraigned before Magistrate P.E. Nwaka on nine counts of conspiracy, armed robbery, murder and kidnapping.

Prosecutor Thomas Nurudeen told the court that the defendants committed the offense in January and February 2023, respectively, in the Ojo and Abule Ado regions of the state.

According to him, the defendants conspired with other people at large, while armed with weapons, to kidnap, kill and defraud Ezeike.

He said the defendants, while armed with a gun, also stole an iPhone, owned by a certain Joel Ekeh, worth N150,000 in the Egan area of ​​the state.

Nurudeen said the offenses committed violated and were punishable under Sections 287, 299, 297(B), 411 and 415 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015.< /p>

However, the defendants' pleas were not accepted by the court.

The prosecutor requested that the defendants be remanded to the Ikoyi Correctional Center pending the opinion of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Acceding to the request, the magistrate, P. E Nwaka, ordered that the defendants be remanded in custody at the Ikoyi Correctional Center pending the opinion of the DPP.

The case has been adjourned until May 5, 2023.
