Four dead, three injured as car hits truck loaded with cement in Ogun

Four people were reportedly killed and three others injured in an accident involving a car and a truck loaded with cement, which occurred Thursday evening on the Abeokuta - Sagamu highway.

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, made this known in a press release he issued to Abeokuta.

He said the accident happened around 7:18 p.m. and involved a Toyota Sienna car registered AAA 307 GN and a Sino truck registered WDL 418 XA.

Mr. Akinbiyi blamed the accident on overspending by the driver of the Toyota Sienna car.

"We learned that the Sienna car entering Abeokuta was driving behind the Dangote truck when it crashed into the truck from behind, due to excessive speed and the driver's inability to determine that a vehicle was in the front, coupled with the smoke emitted by the truck, which also had no taillight.

“The four occupants of the Sienna vehicle lost their lives, the driver escaped without injury. The other three victims were in the Dangote truck.”

Mr. Akinbiyi said the corpses were deposited at the morgue of Ogun State General Hospital in Ijaiye, Abeokuta, while the injured were taken to the Federal Medical Center (FMC) in the capital for treatment. .

While sympathizing with the families of the deceased victims, the TRACE spokesperson warned operators of articulated vehicles to always make safety their watchword.

"Drivers should avoid speeding and refrain from traveling at night, given the consequences that flow from it," he said.
