FULL LIST: Ronaldo misses out on FIFA's top football awards list

Cristiano Ronaldo tops the list of missing personalities as FIFA revealed the shortlisted candidates for The Best FIFA Football Awards 2022 on Thursday.

A calamitous season with Manchester United that culminated in an acrimonious exit from the club and an under-par exit at the Qatar 2022 World Cup with Portugal may have contributed to Ronaldo's snub from the star shortlist.

While five-time Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo has been snubbed, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe are both up for the prestigious award hosted by world football's governing body

It should also be noted that Morocco's spectacular performance at the last World Cup earned them nominations in three categories.

While Achraf Hakimi is nominated for Best FIFA Men's Player, Walid Regragui is up for Best FIFA Men's Coach and Yassine Bounou will be up for Best FIFA Men's Goalkeeper.

Other Africans on the shortlist are Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, both in the running for the Best FIFA Men's Player award.

According to FIFA, two expert panels selected the candidates for the player, goalkeeper and manager categories.

FIFA will announce the three finalists in each of the seven categories in early February 2023.
