Only INEC has the power to move polling stations, Oyo PDP tells APC

Says defeat awaits opposition in 2023

The ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against making baseless and frivolous allegations against Governor Seyi Makinde in order to remain relevant in the political events ahead of the 2023 general election.

The PDP said that only INEC had the constitutional right and power to move or transfer the voting units and not Makinde or any other elected public office holder for that matter.

The party therefore warned that giving false alarms, spreading lies and mischief as political tools during the political campaign season are outdated as people have become more politically aware and sophisticated to be swayed by a cheap propaganda.

In a statement by its spokesperson, Akeem Olatunji, the PDP debunked any interference or collusion with INEC on any of its work, pointing out that the APC in Oyo State was simply acting by despair in portraying the PDP in such an unpleasant light.

According to the Oyo State PDP, the entire content of the said APC allegation was laughable, describing it as an example of a dog claiming to have territory in a kingdom controlled by a lion, adding : "You know it's either that dog was stoned by something, or he was using the lion as a meal. »

He said INEC, in its wisdom to improve the country's electoral system, created no less than 56,872 new voting units across the country in 2021, bringing the total number of voting units in the country at 176,974.

The party added that ahead of the gubernatorial election held recently in Osun State, INEC announced and moved some voting units to deepen the credibility of the process in its wisdom, adding that INEC also moved some voting units from churches, mosques, palaces and other areas for several reasons.

He therefore described the APC's allegation as mere blackmail aimed at painting the INEC, the ruling party and the governor in a bad light, pointing out that a political party that tells brazen lies without remorse to gain power will boldly tell more and worse lies to retain power.

He said the opposition party is still grappling with the reality of its rejection by Nigerians at all levels.
