Fury reveals plans for ex-England international Rooney to join camp for Usyk fight

Former England international Wayne Rooney will join Tyson Fury's camp for a month before a possible fight with Oleksandr Usyk, the boxer has claimed.

The WBC champion saw off former rival Derek Chisora again at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium earlier this month, to set up a potential unification bout with the Ukrainian.

After his win, former Manchester United striker Rooney professed his admiration for Fury, with the latter suggesting he should train with the D.C. United boss.

While the comments seemed like a joke, Fury said on Monday that his offer was serious, with Rooney ready to join him in training.

"I spoke to Wayne last night and he's all for it," he told ITV. "He's a right-hander, so he has to change to left-handed, left-handed. We're going to bring in Wayne for Usyk's preparation.

"[I'm] very, very serious. He's okay, so he's going to come to camp for about four weeks and help me. I'm a big fan of him too."

During a successful club career, Rooney enjoyed domestic and international success with United, before moving on to manager of Derby County.

He was previously the top scorer on record for England, until current Three Lions captain Harry Kane equaled his run in the country's 2-1 loss to France in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

Fury is targeting a fight with Usyk, who beat Anthony Joshua to win the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO titles before defending them against the Briton once again earlier this year.
