Giambattista Valli RTW Spring 2023

Giambattista Valli had a major moment at the Emmys a few weeks ago when Lizzo wore mega glam red tulle dress from her couture collection, styled by Jason Rembert, to accept her award for Amazon Prime's "Watch Out for The Big Grrrls." She has never looked so beautiful.

"She felt beautiful and she is beautiful, the match was like magic," said the creator behind the scenes. from her Spring 2023 show.

Valli likes to dress a diva, and this season he wanted to take her on vacation to India.

"It's all about colors, you can smell and taste them, spicy or tangerine, lemon and pink," he said, pointing to a mood board with pink doors, flower designs and photos from his own personal collection of miniature Indian paintings that were incorporated into clothing on t-shirts. and prints.

"I like the idea that women have no borders or limits, be inspired by other cultures and be nomadic. Now more than ever, I think it's very important to be open," he added.

Valli has channeled her love of high decor into more casual pieces, from day to night, using cane prints, crochet, lace embroidery, strands of pearls and gold braiding on cropped suits, mini dresses, micro skirts, bras and sheer tube dresses that could range from the beach to the bar.

Many of the looks featured bare midriffs and revealing thongs. Others had criss-cross straps, cutouts and twist ties borrowed from swimwear. Some of the simpler looks stood out the most, including a pretty Indian cotton poplin sundress with cutouts at the waist, and a floral-embroidered crochet top and skirt. Turbans as easy to put on as a baseball cap, oversized jeweled earrings and jeweled lace-up sandals were fun extras.

It was a new chapter in Giamba glam, save for an occasional detour into the too-suit-y . It would also have been nice to see a nod to the inclusion of the size on the runway, after Lizzo represented the brand so well.
