Gian Paolo Barbieri Gets Exposure, J. Crew Teams Up With Tracksmith, Kenneth Cole Drops NFTs

BARBIERI IN SHOW: An exhibition on the work of renowned photographer Gian Paolo Barbieri will open in Milan on November 29 .

To be held at 29 Arts in Progress Gallery and will run until March 25, 2023, the " Gian The Paolo Barbieri: Unconventional" exhibition will include an exclusive selection of colorful images and never-before-seen photographs by Barbieri.

The exhibition will accompany images of top models and celebrities in key advertising campaigns that Barbieri has photographed over the years for brands like Versace, Vivienne Westwood, Valentino, Giorgio Armani, Dolce & Gabbana and Gianfranco Ferré, among others. The aim is to also offer insight into the photographer's lesser-known work and highlight the connection to the worlds of art and film in his iconography.

For example, for a Dolce Vita-inspired shoot for Io Donna magazine in Rome in 1997, Barbieri portrayed model Eva Herzigova wrapped in a Krizia dress under photos of Alfred Hitchcock - one of her favorite directors - and Italian cinema icon Gina Lollobrigida.

As a personal matter, the exhibition will closely follow the launch of a docu-film on life de Barbieri et travail, which will be shown in cinemas in Italy next month. Dubbed "L'uomo e la bellezza" or "Man and Beauty" in English, the 75-minute film directed by Emiliano Scatarzi will include interviews with Dolce & Gabbana, Monica Bellucci, Rita Airaghi for Fondazione Ferrè and Giuseppe Zanotti, among others.

The documentary premiered at the 2022 Biografilm Festival in Bologna in June, when it won the Audience Award in the Art & Music Category. After rolling out in Italy, it will launch internationally on Sky Arts from January 23.

Born in Milan in 1935, Barbieri is one of the most influential fashion photographers. He comes from a family of textile wholesalers and it was in his father's warehouse that Barbieri began to get used to fashion.
