Gvardiol intermediary confident €100m star will move to 'persistent' Chelsea after fresh attack

Josko Gvardiol will 'eventually go to Chelsea' according to a source close to the Croatian international.

The Blues made an £80m bid for the centre-back in the summer, which was turned down by RB Leipzig.

Gvardiol went on to sign a new five-year deal with the Bundesliga outfit but is set to make another big money move this summer for around €100m following his impressive performances at the World Cup.

It was thought Chelsea interest may have ended following the signing of left centre-back Benoit Badiashile, but Bild (via Sport Witness) claimed on Friday that Les Bleus have not given up on their quest for the 20-year-old.

The report claims that Chelsea 'remain persistent' and have 'dared' to launch a new attack to sign Gvardiol, although he is targeting a summer transfer.

Chelsea's new technical director Christopher Vivell spent more than two years at Leipzig before joining the Premier League side in December and would be central to any deal for the Croatian.

At the back of this report, middleman Vincenzo Cavaliere told Calciomercato he believed Gvardiol was worth the €100m Leipzig wanted for him

"The valuation of a player is directly proportional to the price a club is willing to pay for him, and with the prices some players get away with, I would say yes. Gvardiol is 20 years old, that's a regular at a big club like Leipzig and the Croatian national team, which is third in the world."

Cavaliere was then asked which club he expected Gvardiol to join.

"I think he will eventually go to Chelsea," he replied.

Asked by the Italian publication if any Serie A clubs were in the frame, the go-between confirmed there was historic interest in the defender but suggested their chances were slim now that clubs of the Premier League revolve around.

"Atalanta and Milan had been looking for him, but the most serious approach came from Inter when the boy played for Dinamo Zagreb's Allievi. The Croatian club didn't want to sell him and nothing happened. was made for him."
