Hamzat urges women to warn neighborhoods against election violence

Obanikoro's wife, Fatima, provides free medical care to women

The wife of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, yesterday urged women to warn their children and wards against being used by unscrupulous politicians to provoke election violence in 2023. Mrs. Hamzat said so at Women's Wellness, Mental Health and HIV Awareness Program, where Free Medical Examination, Eye Examination, Vitamins, Medical Wellness Awareness, HIV Awareness and mental health are provided to women in the Victoria Island Local Council Development Area of Iru (LCDA).

The initiative was organized by the wife of Babajide Ibrahim Obanikoro, representing the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency of Lagos State in the House of Representatives, Fatima, with the support of Evercare Hospital in Lekki, Lagos. Hamzat urged women to guide their children and ensure that politicians do not use them to perpetrate electoral vices, noting that many children of such politicians are protected. Speaking about the programme, Hamzat said it was important to continue to promote initiatives that would give women and children the rights to comprehensive and adequate medical care, especially where social or cultural restrictions or discrimination may impede access to these medical services. She said: "It's gratifying, this event has made it clear that everyone has to be on deck, we can't leave everything to the government, we have to continuously contribute our own quota to the growth and development of our nation to propose initiatives that would benefit all. "Health is wealth for the individual and society. A person can live without amassing wealth but cannot be comfortable without good health. Health is something something we can't buy with money, but we can take care of it with timely health interventions like this. Please make good use of this opportunity and do your free medical checks. It is very important for us to have regular physical and mental health checks.

Fatima Obanikoro urged the National Assembly to formulate bills that would support women, adding that women play a vital role in the development of the country.

"To be honest, as a woman, I feel like women aren't given much attention. Considering my position, I think this is a good opportunity for me to reach out to other women. It's a way for them to be happy.

Obanikoro, who lamented that she lost a friend four weeks ago to mental illness, said the initiative required the foundation to include mental health awareness.
