Harry Potter cafe to reopen three years after George IV Bridge fire in Edinburgh

An Edinburgh cafe where JK Rowling wrote part of her Harry Potter books is set to reopen three years after a devastating fire.

The Elephant House cafe was one of several properties badly damaged in a fire on George IV Bridge in Edinburgh in August 2021.

Its reopening was delayed because the owner of the building went into liquidation.

Cafe owner David Taylor said he hoped to reopen by summer 2024.

He cannot continue. with the works until the Edinburgh central block structure was safe - which was hampered by the owner's liquidation shortly after the fire.

Mr. Taylor told BBC Scotland the renovation would cost around £1 million and work would begin soon.
