ICPC Confirms D'banj's Arrest and Detention for Alleged N-Power Fraud

The Independent Commission on Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses (ICPC) on Wednesday confirmed the arrest and detention of Oladipo Daniel Oyebanjo, otherwise known by his stage name, D'Banj, in connection with the investigation into fraud associated with the N-Power program.

The ICPC confirmation comes several hours after PREMIUM TIMES exclusively broke news of the musician's hardships.

N-Power is a program established by President Muhammadu Buhari on June 8, 2016 to address unemployment and youth empowerment issues and help increase social development.

In its Wednesday afternoon statement, the ICPC said:

In accordance with its mandate, the Commission has received numerous petitions on the misappropriation of N-Power funds amounting to billions of naira following the approval and release of these funds to beneficiaries by the federal government. Many N-Power beneficiaries have complained that monthly funds are not received despite payment by the government.

About 10 people have been invited by the ICPC over the past few months in connection with the N-Power fraud, and obtained administrative bail after their detention. Several invitations to Mr. Oladipo Daniel Oyebanjo (D'banj), to appear before a team of investigators were ignored and not honored.

Mr. Oyebanjo (D'banj) surrendered and was taken into custody at ICPC Headquarters on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, and is currently assisting investigators in unraveling the circumstances of the Claimants' fraud allegations.

The investigation will be global and will also be extended to other fraud collaborators and to the banks where the accounts of the beneficiaries are domiciled.

This press release has become necessary to set the record straight in view of the information flooded by the media. The investigation is ongoing and the Commission prefers not to prejudge its outcome and also avoid the frenzy of a media trial.
