Immigration saves nine victims of human trafficking in Jigawa

The Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS, has rescued nine victims of human trafficking in Jigawa State.

The service's state comptroller, Ahmed Dauda Bagari, said this during a briefing to reporters at the command headquarters in Dutse.

He said the victims of human trafficking were rescued by immigration personnel on border patrol along the Kazaure-Daura road.

According to him "The victims were intercepted on Friday around 5:00 p.m. in the local government area of ​​Kazaure on their way leaving the country to Europe via the Republic of Niger and Libya.

"They were rescued after a denunciation and intelligence report on the movement of victims from Kano to Niger via Kazaure."

He explained that some of the victims suffered varying degrees of injury when the driver saw the immigration checkpoint and tried to evade arrest.

The driver was arrested and the victims were treated at Dutse General Hospital.

The Comptroller said the victims, including eight women, were between the ages of 22 and 37 native to Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Enugu states.

He said they will be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Human Trafficking (NAPTI) for further action
