Mr Zailani's press aide, Ibrahim Danfulani, said in a statement that the rumor was "fictitious and the work of the opposition".

The statement referenced an anonymous media outlet, which reported that state lawmakers are taking steps to impeach the governor over alleged corruption.

"The attention of the Kaduna State Assembly Speaker has been brought to the port of alleged impeachment measures against Governor Nasir El-Rufai due to corruption allegations circulating on social platforms.

"It is simply the work of the opposition and enemies of the progress of the relationship between the legislative arm of government and the executive under the able leadership of Malam Nasir El-Rufai, apparently creating crises between the Legislative and Executive and in the good people of Kaduna State the dividends of democracy they enjoy through the good working relationship between the Executive and the Legislature, the statement said.

"The report also states that the relationship between the Governor and the Speaker of the Kaduna State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Zailani has been frosty for some time now and is also just the fruit from the imagination of the writer and perhaps his sponsors, he added.

Mr. Danfulani said, "It is also wrong that state legislators are currently investigating the expenditures of all state government ministries, agencies and parastatals.

"I therefore wish to state categorically that the entire report is maliciously concocted to misinform the general public and should be ignored in its entirety.

"In the meantime, the origin of the alleged report will be thoroughly investigated with a view to bringing the authors and their sponsors to book to deter others.

“It should be noted, however, that the relationship between the legislature and the executive is cordial and is expected not only to remain so, but also to improve,” the statement said.
