Kidnappers kill lawmaker Bauchi's son

The eldest son of a National Assembly member from Bauchi representing Dass constituency, Bala Ali, was killed by suspected kidnappers.

Abdul Burra, the spokesman for Speaker of the House Abubakar Suleiman, who shared the Assembly plenary proceedings on Tuesday evening with our correspondent, said the member representing Burra constituency, Ado Wakili , had revealed it during the session of the House under cover of a personal explanation.

Tuesday's plenary session was chaired by House Deputy Speaker Danlami Ahmed Kawule.

According to him, the lawmaker who offered his condolences to MPs for the murder of his colleague's son called the incident "tragic" and prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased and grant him Jannatul Firdaus.

Responding to the motion, the Speaker ordered that a special prayer be conducted for the deceased. Bello Shira representing Shira Constituency led a special prayer.

The Speaker announced that lawmakers would pay a condolence visit to the MP and his family immediately after the plenary.

Burra said Baballe Dambam representing Dambam/Zagaya/Jalam constituency while narrating what happened explained that the deceased was kidnapped by unknown people who detained him for days and took him then killed.

He said he described the incident as shocking and disturbing, adding that funeral prayers for the deceased had already taken place.

The PUNCH reports that the then member representing Dass constituency, Musa Baraza, was attacked and killed on August 14, 2020 by as yet unidentified gunmen.

Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Amed Wakil, who confirmed the incident to reporters, said the two wives and one-year-old child of the deceased had were also abducted by the armed men.

They were later released from captivity after several days in captivity.
