Kim Kardashian, Ashton Kutcher and Chris Paul: Could Peloton Stocks Ride the Celebrity Wave?

Interactive fitness company Peloton Interactive PTON has had a tough year, with shares down 90% and a new CEO working to turn around the business which has seen demand and interest enormous during the COVID-19 pandemic. Could a new series featuring celebrities on Peloton products help brand awareness and interest?

What happened: Actor and entrepreneur Ashton Kutcher has teamed up with Peloton for a new series called "Our Future Selves". The series will see Kutcher interview and conduct training sessions with Peloton coaches and celebrities.

The new show coincides with Kutcher training for the 2022 TCS New York City Marathon (November 6, 2022) and an effort to raise funds for his nonprofit organization Thorn.< /p>

"Our Future Selves" is a 16-episode series that will run classes over 10 weeks. Slated to appear on the series are Kim Kardashian, Natalie Portman, Kenny Chesney, Thomas Rhett, Allyson Felix, Jon Batiste and Chris Paul. Celebrities will all race and train on the Peloton Tread in episodes. Each episode will feature a motivated Peloton coach. Classes will be available to Peloton users alongside the series.

The series debuted on August 30 and featured Peloton instructor Becs Gentry.

"Having Peloton instructors prepare me for the marathon has been amazing and creating this series has been a blast," Kutcher said. "I've spoken to brilliant actors, musicians, writers, athletes, and doctors about what drives them and their 'whys.'"

Kardashian will be featured in an episode to be released on September 6, 2022.

Why it matters: Kutcher is a "passionate member of the pack" according to the company and could help the company increase brand awareness and show that celebrities are using the products.

Kardashian is particularly noteworthy, given its wide reach on social media and the potential for an article about the company's products. Kardashian is the 12th most followed person on Twitter with 73.5 million followers. On Instagram, Kardashian is the seventh most followed account with 329 million followers.

Kardashian is also featured in the show "The Kardashians", which airs on the Hulu streaming platform, a unit of The Walt Disney Company DIS. The show enjoyed strong viewership and Kardashian might mention Peloton training during an episode, giving the fitness company's brand another boost.

Peloton reported fourth-quarter revenue of $678.7 million, down 28% year-over-year and below analyst estimates.< /p>

As overall revenue fell, the company saw Peloton membership and Connected Fitness subscriptions increase year-over-year to fourth quarter.
