Kogi East besieged by bandits, says Uk'Omu Igala
The Uk'Omu Igala Organization, a socio-cultural group at the top of the Kogi East Senate District, said that the Kogi East Senate District was besieged by bandits who also acted as kidnappers
This was announced in a press statement issued by the National Chief, David AAbutu and the National Secretary, Sebastian Abuh respectively, following the deaths of two sons of Igala servicemen recently killed in Abuja.
>The statement adds that the bandits destroy and prevent their farmers from accessing their agricultural lands, and kidnap many of their inhabitants from the highways in the forest, and demand unimaginable sums of money as ransom.
>The statement noted that they cannot allow their forests to become abodes of death, instead of sources of sustenance for the growing population, through various types of agriculture.
“Those who could not pay are tortured or killed; while even those who sold their valuables and the belongings of friends and family to pay, tell bitter tales of humiliation and wickedness.
"A cutting-edge socio-cultural group in the Kogi East Senatorial District, mourns two of its sons, Lieutenant Jauro Ibrahim Suleiman and Captain Samuel Atta, who paid the supreme price for the defense of the nation last Sunday, the July 24, 2022.< /p>
“The two valiant extraction officers from Igala were among 10 servicemen ambushed and killed by terrorists, when troops from the 7th Guards Battalion and 167th Special Forces Battalion carried out a “demining patrol around the Bwari area of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, in response to reports that terrorists had threatened the institutions of this regional council.
“The two fallen officers fought a good fight and finally joined the long list of many sons and daughters of Igala who have sacrificed their lives since the national battle of more than a decade against terrorists of various names - Boko Haram, Islam State of West Africa Province (ISWAP), Ansaru, and now bandits, who have expanded their deadly operations into North West and North Central States.
"As we mourn these officers and express our condolences to the immediate family members of the soldiers killed, we call on the federal government and the military to deliver a paradigm shift in the fight against terrorists.
p>“Before these soldiers were killed, reports indicated that terrorists had camped in a forest around Bwari. Little was done to dislodge them until they became entrenched and very daring to attack the officers of the elite FCT Guard Brigade.
"We call on the military to remove terrorists from our forests so that law-abiding Nigerian citizens can live in peace and contribute to national development.
“We further call on the government to seek international support in the fight against terrorists. We must not continue to count and needlessly mourn the loss of our young men to so-called terrorists who illegally enter our country.
"As we mourn painfully the late Captain Samuel Attah and Lieutenant J Suleiman, we use this medium to convey our special condolences to His Royal Highness, Attah Igala and the Chairman of the Kogi Council of Heads of State, Alaji Matthew Opaluwa Oguche, relatives and direct relations of the deceased, as well as the government and enduring people of Kogi State following this unfortunate incident.
